Fish magazine recently featured  our visits on the 2011 Produce Tour of South East Queensland in their September issue produced by FRDC. Fisheries Development and Research Commission have kindly shared with us this extract from their industry magazine, FISH.  Fish is a quarterly magazine produced by the FRDC, spreading info about fisheries research and development throughout Australia.

As a supporting partner of the program, Fisheries Research Development plays a pivotal role in connecting the young chefs, waiters and restaurateurs with the seafood industry, providing the opportunity to visit producers first hand. It provides the group with a unique opportunity to learn about the challenges producers faces and what factors influence getting seafood from the ocean to the plate, as well what they are doing to improve sustainability practices and reduce the impact on the environment.

“The visits are aimed at helping educate the people who prepare, cook and sell the food, showing them why Australian produced food is so good. As the finalists found out, it goes beyond just having good conditions, this is about the underlying system of research and development that has driven the country’s productivity” said Peter Horvat, Communications Manager for Fisheries Research and Development Corporation. They are the opinion leaders in the food sector and we have to support them.
