Should We Eat Bugs?
Why not eat insects? Why not, indeed! Why idont we use insects as a food source? Before you turn up your nose and think no, it is worth noting that each year an Australian consumes around an esitmate of 250 grams of insects. In this interesting topic by the ABC's Food on Friday they look at edible insects and if they have a future role on our plates and if they can service our dietary requirements. It seems pretty extreme at first, but well worth a listen before you make up your mind and completely rule out ever eating bugs. If it starts to get you thinkinh then as Slow Food Perth suggest it may be worthwhile having a look at Vincent M Holst's 1885 best seller "Why not eat insects". At very least it got us thinking why dont we eat bugs, when we eat almost everything else?
