a very fruitful visit to the Henschke winery
2012 Electrolux Appetite for Excellence young waiter winner James Audas, young waiter runner up Alexander Tuckett and young chef winner Stewart Wesson took some time out to visit Henscke Wines. Visiting the beautiful vineyards in the Adelaide Hills & Barossa Valley to learn about the rich and diverse story behind the vines, bio-organics & the secrets behind what makes Henschke Wine as profound as its 140 year history. Asia's 50 Best Restaurants Announced 2013

Singapore is a city known for its food. And the local Singaporeans are not shy in coming forward to provide their opinions about where the best food is or what is the best dish to eat in Singapore. We often get great tips from taxi drivers, bar tenders and people listening in on our conversations of where to eat who like to put forward some suggestions. There is something for everyone in Singapore- from hawker centres; Malay, Chinese, Indian, Nonya restaurants to fine dining establishments such as Jaan ("The one to watch" at Asia's 50 Best Restaurants) and Iggy's (ranked 26 on the World's 50 Best Restaurants and 9 on Asia's 50 Best Restaurants).
So it is easy to understand why it was the perfect place to hold the inaugral Asia's 50 Best Restaurants awards. Many of the food styles represented in Singapore are also from the regions that are included in the awards.* I was very fortunate to be invited to the event as a guest of Sanpellegrino and Acqua Panna to experience the prize that the Australian Young Restaurateur 2013 winner will receive. Also in attendance was Soren Lascelles - our Australian Young Chef 2010 winner, reknowned Australian chefs, restaurateurs and mentors David Thomspon - our Guest of Honour 2009 and Tetsuya.
Soren and I arrived to an array of wonderful food, drinks and guests from around Asia to converse with. Apart from meeting some talented chefs during the night, a particular highlight was seeing David Thompson and Tetsuya, especially as they are such icons whose contribution to the Australian hospitality industry has been significant to say the least. Both of these chefs, their restaurants and their teams were recognised last night when Tetsuya's Waku Ghin was announced eleventh and David Thompson's restaurant 'Nahm' was announced as third best restaurant and best restaurant in Thailand to huge cheers from the audience.
Overall it has been a wonderful few days at the chefs masterclasses with a fantastic event last night to complete the experience. The genuine wamth that the chefs and industry audience had for all of those receiving awards displayed the strong sense of community that exists regardless of country. Better yet, there is now a great dining guide for when travelling all through Asia and it is sure to get bigger and better next year. To see the list, see below;
